The 3/50 Project

The 3/50 Project is a viral Buy Local campaign that sprung from a simple blog post in March 2009, supporting independent, locally owned, “brick and mortar” businesses. By educating consumers about the impact of their spending habits, the Project’s goal is to increase consumer spending in a way that delivers the greatest amount of financial benefit to local community economies.

Letter to the Editor Excerpt

A recent letter to the editor in the Evansville Courier & Press addressed the issue of downtown parking in that city as it relates to economic vitality. The writer went on to say the following in regard to downtown Henderson:

“…I work downtown in the Innovation Pointe building and know first-hand how scarce parking can become. Look to Main Street in Henderson, Ky. for a model. Every time I have been down there, it is busy and most of the businesses are occupied.

They have angular parking and normal-width sidewalks. Someone needs to poll the businesses Downtown for the best solution to increase commerce. I bet that parking is at the top of the list.”

Downtown Henderson Visioning session planned tonight (8/27/09, Friday (8/28/09)

The Downtown Henderson Project will continue accepting ideas tonight and Friday from city and county residents, business owners, students and organizations concerning the future of the central business district.

Tonight, there will be a session from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Henderson County Public Library . And on Friday there will be a session for students at Henderson County High School.
The DHP said it intends to use public comments to help it address issues, develop strategies and envision new opportunities and possibilities for downtown.

The public visioning sessions are part of a larger strategic planning process that the DHP will undertake this fall as it develops plans and activities for next year and several years beyond.

The responses to questions offer insights as to what kinds of businesses might be successful and what should be preserved in the downtown.

These sessions will provide an opportunity to gain the community’s perspective on what the downtown could look like, how it could function, how it might be different or better 10 or 20 years from now.
