Downtown Henderson Project’s Beautification Day!

Grab you gardening tools and let’s beautify downtown Henderson! The Downtown Henderson Project’s Design Committee will be planting flowers in the flower urns located throughout downtown Saturday morning April 28th at 8:30am and work until we finish. We will meet in Audubon Mill Park and disperse from there.

The City Garden Club and Master Gardners’ group will provide planting guidance. Several volunteers from First Baptist Church’s newly formed group, “Henderson I Love You” will be joining us for our first beautification project of this magnitude. Fifty four (54) flower urns will be planted and will welcome our visitors all summer!

We know you will want to be part of this exciting project so meet at Audubon Mill Park on Saturday, April 28th at 8:30am. All volunteers are welcome and if you don’t know how to plant flowers, we will find a job for you! Bring your digging’ tools and join us and get the satisfaction you helped beautify your downtown!

If you would like to have more information, contact the DHP office at 270-827-0016.

Paint the Town in “We Are 12″

(Henderson, KY)- The Henderson County School’s Gifted and Talented Program, in conjunction with the Downtown Henderson Project, have joined to promote the district’s “We Are 12” campaign. The 7th grade Gifted and Talented art students will paint business’ windows with original artwork to support the campaign.   Their art will serve to inform the community that Henderson County Schools rank 12th in Kentucky with combined reading and math proficiency scores among 169 K-12 school districts.

For several weeks, the students have participated in art workshops to learn about the various elements of art and how to apply them to their own designs.  The students sharpened their drawing skills while they were introduced to a variety of other techniques such as, symmetrical/asymmetrical balance, perspective, contrast, proportion, focal point, and color mixing.

On April 9th, the 7th grade Gifted and Talented art students will spend the day in downtown Henderson where each individual has been assigned to paint a store window to showcase their original design.
